Students in Mrs. DeVries' 6th grade English classes just completed a digital storytelling project.  This was a collaborative effort by Mrs. DeVries and Mrs. Shoemaker. Mrs. DeVries facilitated the instruction having to do with writing, Mrs. Shoemaker facilitated the technology aspects.

This project has been created to enrich and improve student writing and communication skills through digital storytelling.  The project was funded with a 2004 MACUL grant.  Students used many different kinds of technology for this project including laptop computers, digital cameras, scanners, microphones, Windows Movie Maker, and Microsoft Word.  Students composed a piece of personal narrative writing (script), created a storyboard, collected story elements, and assembled them into a digital story using multimedia tools.  The students completed 2-3 minute digital stories.

Several students shared their digital stories and their experiences at the Power Up! Conference at Oakland Schools on November 30.  Mrs. Shoemaker and Mrs. DeVries also gave a presentation to other teachers at the conference and will do so again at the MACUL Conference in March 2005.
